In the Shoes of an Older Person [Dans la peau d’un aîné] is an awareness-raising workshop on the impacts of human aging. During the session, participants engage in simulation exercises on the reality of older adults and the constraints and challenges they may encounter from day to day.
It is an entertaining and interactive workshop designed to give participants a deeper understanding of the reality of seniors and foster behaviours and attitudes to promote well-treatment of older people. By the end of the session, participants know how to interact well with older people in various contexts and situations and are informed about ageism.
Participants will be presented with up to 6 sensitization exercises:
The first workshops were held in the Bas Saint-Laurent region as part of a regional agreement to improve living conditions for seniors [Entente spécifique sur l’adaptation régionale pour l’amélioration des conditions de vie des personnes aînées 2013-2017]. The Table multisectorielle des aînés du Témiscouata and the FADOQ – Lower St. Lawrence region chapter jointly organized 50 workshops in the Témiscouata area. In 2017, the Réseau FADOQ announced the deployment of this program throughout Québec.
